Production Manager

Production

Job Purpose:

Plan, lead, direct, and monitor all production and maintenance activities to maximise the use of the organisation’s resources to deliver finished goods to customer demand and meet established production specifications and schedules

Reports to:

Operations Manager

Key Responsibilities:

Responsibilities associated with this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Direct and manage all production activities to ensure the daily and weekly production plan is delivered, production targets are achieved, and operational performance is maximised
  • Provide a high level of leadership and management to the production team to ensure that operational issues are identified and managed so that they do not impact on performance
  • Actively manage to promote a culture of staff engagement focusing on teamwork, problem solving, transparency and reporting
  • Construct production work rosters in an effective manner to ensure the efficient and timely delivery of the weekly production plan in full
  • Review the weekly production plan and identify any potential risks or production constraints that may impact on the plan. Provide feedback to the planning department and/ or where
    necessary, implement contingency plans to proactively negate any risks identified
  • Monitor productivity rates against agreed set targets. Initiate root cause analyses where target thresholds have not been achieved and present findings outlining cause and steps/
    actions to be taken
  • Oversee recruitment and make provision for the training and development of production personnel
  • Identify, train, and develop strong leaders into key roles to provide for a robust team structure
  • Ensure there is adequate cross training and labour cover for key positions to account for any planned or unplanned staff absences due to holidays or other unforeseen circumstances such as sickness, injury, or other types of absences
  • Ensure all disciplinary incidents and staff absences are dealt with in a professional and timely manner and in accordance with the company HR policies
  • Effectively communicate with all team members on a regular basis and provide opportunities for feedback. This is achieved through one-to-one sessions with key staff in
    addition to daily and weekly structured meetings
  • Conduct employee Performance Appraisals and establish training and development plans
  • Maintain and apply detailed standard operating procedures (SOP’s) and schedules for all production activity to meet the requirements of BRC or any other relevant customer food
    safety standards
  • Provide key performance indicator data as required and comply with all internal and external audit requirements including representation of the production function during key
    customer audits and visits
  • Liaise with the appropriate departments to reconcile issues resulting from or impacting on the production department i.e. maintenance, hygiene, supply chain or technical
  • Actively seek to address and resolve any issues resulting from production activities; Initiate investigations resulting from non-conformances raised and implement corrective and preventative actions to prevent reoccurrences and drive improvement
  • Identify, lead, and deliver continuous improvement projects in order to drive efficiencies into the production process
  • Foster a continuous improvement culture within the department through implementation of management systems and standard work for production tasks
  • Develop strong relationships by supporting, collaborating with, and challenging where appropriate other departments in order to drive improvement in production standards
  • Audit production standards and documentation and provide feedback to staff where these standards are not being achieved
  • Support the S&T and Hygiene teams in obtaining daily ATP swabs and other microbiological swabs as required for testing. Participate in microbiological investigations or projects to drive improvements in the site hygiene standards
  • Promote and support the integration of new products into the production process and ensure buy in from production personnel
  • Liaise with relevant suppliers and service providers to ensure that fit for purpose equipment, consumables and services are being provided to the plant and maintained in good working order thereafter through interval servicing or adherence to service level agreements
  • Align closely with the Maintenance team to agree dates and times for the completion of preventative maintenance tasks. Effectively plan and communicate with the production team any/ all downtime requirements to carry out planned maintenance works
  • Carry out any reasonable request of your manager or other relevant senior manager in order to meet the needs of the business


Health & Safety

  • Ensure all manufacturing staff are trained and competent in all procedures relevant to their role including the use of equipment and machinery
  • Ensure all tasks are conducted in accordance with all legislative, company and site health & safety policies and ensure that all hazards, accidents / incidents are reported and
    investigated in a timely manner
  • Ensure PPE is available and well maintained for all relevant staff and is used in line with site health & safety policies
  • Ensure safety data sheets (SDS) and product information (PI) relating to chemicals or other hazardous materials used on site are readily accessible to all relevant staff


Environment & Waste Management

  • Ensure the segregation, storage and timely removal of all waste streams are actively managed by the production team on a daily basis including general waste, recyclables, Cat 3
    and any other waste relevant to the production process
  • Ensure the plant external yard and waste areas including relevant equipment and machinery is managed and maintained in a safe, controlled, and hygienic manner
  • Ensure all operatives involved in the management of waste are appropriately trained and comply with all legal environmental obligations associated with the operation
  • Support the Environmental team in maintaining the company’s high standards of environmental compliance. This will be achieved by aiding the development, implementation, and training of procedures to manage the impact production and waste management activities may have on the environment
  • Ensure that all environmental incidents are reported and investigated in a timely manner and corrective and preventative measures are implemented to prevent reoccurrences

Skills / Qualifications / Experience:

  • A competent professional with proven experience of managing and leading a team within a manufacturing environment, ideally food manufacturing
  • 3 years people management experience
  • A strong ability to engage and motivate staff
  • Competent in Microsoft Office
  • Experience using manufacturing software beneficial
  • Strong problem solving capabilities
  • Experience of working within a compliance driven environment to BRC level or equivalent regulating bodies
  • Proven experience of driving improvements in site standards
  • Experience of managing within set budgets, measuring and reporting on key operational metrics
  • Experience of managing external third-party service providers
  • Experience of conducting training on both a 1:1 basis and in small groups
  • Strong spoken and written English skills
  • Planning and organising of staff, time and work schedules
  • Ability to communicate across a wide range of interested parties including direct reports, external suppliers, other factory departments
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Committed to working in a manner that meets the demands of the factory’s operation. This will at times require a flexible approach to start and finish times and may include occasional weekend working
Note: As with all positions, due to the dynamic nature of Arrow Group business, key responsibilities will evolve and change over time. Some travel will be required. Appointment to this role is subject to the candidate’s eligibility to work in Ireland.
