Hygiene Operative

Job Purpose:

Achieve and maintain efficient and effective standards of cleaning across production open plant areas. Deliver a safe and hygienic production environment for the manufacture of food products. This will be achieved by working as part of a hygiene team to achieve these standards

Reports to:

Hygiene Supervisor

Key Responsibilities:

Responsibilities associated with this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure all aspects of the hygiene service are carried out and maintained to required standards
  • Perform cleaning duties as per daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, bi-annual and annual cleaning schedules
  • Adhere to the cleaning sequences as outlined in the Hygiene Management System
  • Audit your own work and complete the requisite cleaning records to verify acceptable standards of cleaning have been met
  • Monitor stock levels of chemicals and report to the hygiene supervisor/team lead when these are depleting
  • Perform your duties in line with the detailed cleaning instructions and standard operating procedures (SOP’s) and schedules for every hygiene activity ensuring you meet the requirements of the BRC and other relevant customer food safety standards
  • Aid in resolving any issues resulting from hygiene activities and actively work to close out corrective actions arising from production hand-over or non- conformance reports
  • Ensure the safe storage, decant, transport and use of chemicals on site
  • Seek to gain an improved understanding of cleaning practices and possible changing cleaning needs of the site
  • Support the Technical & QA team in obtaining daily ATP swabs and other microbiological swabs as required for testing and participating in microbiological investigations or projects to drive improvements in the site hygiene standards
  • Conduct trials of new chemicals, equipment, and consumables to drive continuous improvement in the cleaning and hygiene standards
  • Aid in providing training and awareness to new hygiene staff in all procedures relevant to the role
  • Manage the segregation, storage and timely removal of all waste – recyclables, landfill, hazardous and confidential waste
  • Carry out heavy cleaning tasks
  • Flexible in terms of any other cleaning duties as directed by Supervisor/ Manager
  • Ensuring that your cleaning, and personal protective equipment are always functioning correctly

Skills / Qualifications / Experience:

  • Willing to work unsociable hours when required
  • Understands and follows instruction
  • Proven working experience as a cleaner
  • Ability to handle heavy equipment and machinery
  • Ability to operate with forklift and Hoist
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies
  • Familiarity with Material Safety Data Sheets
  • Have positive “can do” attitude
  • Ability to work effectively under time pressure
  • Willing to share knowledge with others
  • Able to understand and implement good manufacturing practices
  • Capable of working independently or as part of a team
  • Understanding of site hygiene and health & safety
  • Clear communications skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
Note: As with all positions, due to the dynamic nature of Arrow Group business, key responsibilities will evolve and change over time. Some travel will be required. Appointment to this role is subject to the candidate’s eligibility to work in Ireland.
