Lab Technician

Job Purpose:

Laboratory co-ordination to determine chemical and microbiological properties of products

Reports to:

Quality Assurance Manager

Key Responsibilities:

Responsibilities associated with this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Lab start up and shut down
  • Bord Bia QA verification of supplying herds
  • Sample collection and preparation in line with the Laboratory testing plans
  • Facilitate the co-ordination of the salmonella control program
  • Sample collection for export market certification
  • Co-ordinate the self-monitoring residue testing plan
  • Brine and nitrite analysis
  • Completion of the Trichinella test and worksheets
  • Manage and implement the shelf-life testing programme
  • Co-ordinate and participate in proficiency testing programmes when required
  • Ensuring the laboratory is well-stocked and resourced
  • Weekly calibration of temperature probes and manage traceability of the probes
  • Organise external calibrations
  • Facilitate the INAB calibrations
  • Calibration of temperature probes and daily fridge temperature checks
  • Review laboratory reports
  • Process all laboratory related invoices
  • Analyse and trend results
  • Co-ordinate and implement the sanitation programme for the laboratory
  • Weekly/monthly certs of analysis to customers (Micro/antibiotic/chemistry)
  • Ensure all CCP monitoring, and verification procedures are carried out according to the HACCP plans
  • Ensure knife sterilisation procedures are performed properly
  • Auditing – pre op/operational sanitation/Glass audits/GMP audits/Quality and Environmental internal audits
  • Document changes when required – Update records, work instructions etc
  • Verification of chemical dilution concentrations & chemical residue checks on food contact surfaces
  • Participate in monthly lab meetings

Skills / Qualifications / Experience:

  • Food science degree/Biology degree/Agri Science degree
  • Good communication
  • Works well in a team
  • Strong time management
  • Self-driven
Note: As with all positions, due to the dynamic nature of Arrow Group business, key responsibilities will evolve and change over time. Some travel will be required. Appointment to this role is subject to the candidate’s eligibility to work in Ireland.
